Social/Political/Legal Workshop (SPLW)

Our aim is to facilitate and provide a forum within the Philosophy Department at Loyola University Chicago (LUC) for scholarship on social, political, and legal issues. We are particularly interested in exploring the philosophical dimensions of these kinds of issues, though we aim to do so in an interdisciplinary spirit. Like the philosophy department, we embrace an ecumenical and pluralistic approach to these topics. Key areas of interest include social/political philosophy broadly and topical areas like philosophy of law and philosophy of race.

We pursue our primary objectives through three primary facets:

  • Providing a forum for recent scholarship on these SPLW areas of interest either through invited talks or sponsored reading groups.
  • Hosting workshops for faculty and graduate students on research that addresses questions within SPLW areas of interest.
  • Sponsoring salon-style gatherings for the exchange of ideas and forging of connections between people with interest in SPLW areas of interest.

Please contact Professor Takunda Matose if you have any questions or if you would like to participate.
