Philosophy Colloquium: "The Altered Animal," by Dr. David Peña-Guzmán

The Philosophy Department and the Phenomenology Research Group are co-hosting a colloquium on Friday, January 26 with guest speaker Dr. David Peña-Guzmán, an Associate Professor of Philosophy at San Francisco State University. In this presentation, Peña-Guzmán will consider and discuss the significance of nonhuman altered states of consciousness (ASCs), paying attention to intentionally as well as unintentionally triggered ASCs. What do nonhuman ASCs teach us about the nonhuman psyche? And how might contemporary theories about animal consciousness have to change in order to give a better account of the varied accounts other animals have with reality?

Please join us on Friday, January 26 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm in the Information Commons, 4th Floor. A reception will follow from 5:00pm in the lounge outside of the Philosophy Department on the third floor of the Crown Center.
