Sustainability at Arrupe College

Arrupe College is dedicated to sustainability. Leading the way for organic waste diversion at Water Town Campus in partnership with the Office of Sustainability, the Arrupe composting program in the kitchen is the pilot program for campus composting. Year-round special programming – including energy week, food week, waste week, and earth week – are offered by Arrupe’s Office of Student Services and Arrupe Student Government of Arrupe along with the Office of Sustainability.

Students can take courses in environmental science and sustainability as well as use lab space on Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus in the School of Environmental Sustainability. Arrupe’s home facility, Maguire Hall, underwent extensive energy efficiency improvements including the installation of a green roof in 2018. Students, staff and faculty of Arrupe can also participate in any of the sustainability programs offered at Loyola including those hosted at the Lake Shore or Health Sciences Campus. Campus-wide, Loyola University Chicago recently committed to clean power, with 100% of the university’s electricity needs provided through a new solar project that will be the largest solar farm in Illinois and among the largest solar projects in the country.
