Reference Checks
Reference checks are required by Loyola University Chicago policy. Some or all of the check(s) can be conducted by the department. Typically, reference checks are done only for the primary, final candidate selected for the position. Human Resources obtains permission from each candidate to contact the appropriate business references. A summary of the information collected through the reference checks is reviewed with the hiring department.
- References should be checked for internal candidates applying for other positions within Loyola only if the internal candidate becomes a primary candidate.
- The Human Resources Office will obtain permission from the employee before contacting his/her supervisor. In addition, the employee's past performance appraisals will be reviewed.
