U-Pass Activation
Loyola University Chicago manages the U-Pass program for all full-time students eligible in undergraduate, graduate, Quinlan School of Business Graduate Programs, and the Law School. While the U-Pass functions the same way for each of these programs, activation/deactivation dates and processes vary depending on the program in which a student is eligible. Please note that Arrupe eligibility may vary: for questions, please email upass@luc.edu.
Full-time Status
The Loyola University Chicago U-Pass Program, in conjunction with CTA, defines full-time status as:
Undergraduate Students: 6 credit hours
Graduate Students: 6 credit hours
Graduate Business: 4 graduate business credit hours
Law School: 6 graduate credit hours
Arrupe: 3 credit hours
*students must be enrolled in qualified U-Pass programs
Activation Process
Prior to each semester/term, the U-Pass team, with the assistance of Information Technology and the Bursar's Office, identify students that are eligible for the upcoming term based on eligibility criteria. These reports are run in advance of the creation (for new students) activation of (for exisiting students) of U-Passes.
Existing Students
All U-Passes are valid for 5 years. Students are asked to not dispose of their U-Pass between terms, as we simply activate the pass of qualifying students each term. Given that students are registered for classes at least 5-7 business days prior to the term starting, they can expect their U-Pass to activate at the beginning of the term. For students who are late registrants, please allow for three to four business days after registering as a full time student for your pass to activate. If you have registered, and your pass is not working after this 3-4 business day window, please refer to U-Pass Troubleshooting for any additional information about inoperative passes.
New Students
All U-Passes are valid for 7 years. Students are asked to not dispose of their U-Pass between terms, as we simply activate the pass of qualifying students each term. Given that students are registered for classes at least 2-3 weeks prior to the term starting, they can expect to pick up a pre-printed U-Pass at a distribution session during the first week of any term. For students who are late registrants, please visit U-Pass distribution to order your pass. Please note that we require a valid student ID for any new student who qualifies for the U-Pass. Passes that are not picked up during the first week of classes are available at the Damen Student Center Information Desk.
