Theta Alpha Kappa (TAK)

Theta Alpha Kappa is the national honor society for academic studies in Religion and/or Theology, and it exists to encourage, recognize, and maintain excellence in such studies within baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate degree programs, but also within the academic profession more broadly understood at Loyola University Chicago.

Theta Alpha Kappa is a member society in the Association of College Honor Societies. In addition, it is recognized as a Related Scholarly Organization of the American Academy of Religion, and an Affiliate Society of the Council of Societies for the Study of Religion.

Overall Goals

  1. To initiate collaborative research between professors, graduate and undergraduate students, including the presentation of joint and/or related research at TAK meetings, supporting collaborative conference (and panel) presentations beyond LUC and encouraging participants to apply for LUC’s ‘Research Mentoring Program’, http://www.luc.edu/gradschool/pcap/researchmentoringprogram/
  2. To assist students to take up research and presentation initiatives, including participation at conferences, symposia and colloquiums, as well as applying for funding with LUC’s Office of Research Services (when applicable).
  3. To promote awareness of, and encourage submission to, the TAK annual essay contest: http://www.thetaalphakappa.tcu.edu/scholarships_awards/clark_awards.html
  4. To study TAK’s charter and to formally induct new members on a regular basis according to the group’s bylaws. A spring meeting (‘ceremony’) will be held accordingly.
