The Loyola Theatre Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee

This committee helps ensure that the Loyola Theatre program lives up to its expressed values and commitments regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

The nomination process happens in the beginning of Fall semester each year. Any Loyola Theatre major or minor is eligible to apply and then be considered to fill one of the 6 student spots on the committee. Each year, the committee is constituted by up to 6 students and up to 5 faculty and staff members, with the goal of preserving an emphasis on student voices in the direction of the committee. In keeping with a selection process updated in 2020 in collaboration with representatives from the Office of Academic Diversity, should the number of student applicants mean that fewer than 6 students participate on the committee, accepted faculty/staff applications should always be adjusted so that students constitute the committee majority. Out of respect for student labor realities, the general model of the committee is that the goals are student-driven and the labor is led by faculty and staff (at the same time, all students on the committee are expected to do some labor in service of the committee). The committee meets approximately once per month, with occasional other meetings or subcommittee meetings added as needed, depending on the nature of the work happening in a particular semester.

Both new and continuing students are encouraged to apply. Application information will be made available to all Loyola Theatre students during the first week of classes, but you can also find updates about the application process here.
