Student Production Opportunities
There are many opportunities to be involved in our Production Program at Loyola; it is designed to be the practical extension of our students' work in the classroom and we are reliant on the talents and energies of our students to be involved in almost every aspect of our productions. During your time here, we hope that you will have an opportunity to explore as many facets of a production as possible.
Main Stage Opportunities
Our season productions are normally produced in the Newhart Family Theatre. These productions are selected to fulfill a myriad of academic priorities for us, including varying styles, periods, and genres of dramatic literature and performance as well as a variation in design opportunities. These productions are primarily led by our faculty.
Second Stage Opportunities
Our Second Stage Laboratory projects are student-led research projects that can take a variety of forms. These are opportunities for students to get hands on experience collaborating with their peers with faculty and staff mentorship and some departmental support.
Projects might range from original devised theatre productions to masterclasses, workshops, readings, research presentation or funding for a research trip or conference. A call for proposals happens on an annual basis, usually in November, with proposals being due early in the Spring semester, after the Mainstage season has been determined. The number of projects selected at a given time varies on available resources and balance with the other productions the department has committed to.
Details and current application information are available on the Second Stage Laboratory page.
Production Staff Positions
In addition to our Second Stage projects, we provide opportunities in all of our productions (Main Stage and Second Stage) for students to assume leadership roles and assistant roles in many capacities. If you are interested in managing, designing, assisting with design, directing, managing, or having some other role in production, we encourage you to submit an application.
