THEA Highlights
Take a look below at the highlights of class topics, activities, and events that a student can expect to encounter while at THEA.
Coursework
Students will attend college-like classes with Loyola’s faculty which will cover interdisciplinary coursework studying water issues from a scientific, environmental, ethical, and cultural-spiritual lens.
We work hard each year to ensure our curriculum and co-curricular activities are as strong as possible. This means we cannot guarantee these same class topics or activities will be offered in the future.
Co-curricular Activities & Community Building
Students will co-create and share inside and outside the classroom. We will integrate social and community-building activities throughout the week that intricately tie THEA’s themes together. Here are some of the activities students can expect to participate in throughout the week:
- Science lab experience
- Biodiesel facility and urban agriculture tour at the School of Environmental Sustainability
- Vocational exploration
- Social gatherings with music, snacks, and art
- Reflections and meditations within nature
- Field trips
Field Trips
During the week, the entire Institute travels within Chicago giving students the opportunity to interact with scientists, educators, and partners to investigate and learn about environmental work related to the local eco-system. The intention of our field trips is to provide an interactive and experiential approach to what has been learned in the classroom.
