Develop a Faculty-led Program
Loyola University Chicago strives to exemplify the five characteristics of a Jesuit Education, one of which is Global Awareness: Demonstrating an understanding that the world’s people and societies are interrelated and interdependent. Study abroad offers students, staff, and faculty, a vehicle for which to explore and learn more about the global interconnectedness of our society. However, only a portion of Loyola’s undergraduate population are currently studying abroad. Nationally, only about 10% of U.S. undergraduates study abroad (Institute for International Education). Some reasons include affordability, alignment with their academic degree plan or fear of delayed graduation, and concerns about traveling for the first time independently. The faculty-led program model addresses these concerns and has become an essential model for increasing access to study abroad and aligning internationally focused curriculum with the standards and degree plans offered at Loyola University. Faculty members play a critical role in expanding these offerings and developing innovative programming that aligns with Loyola’s mission.
