| Description: | The General Surgery Elective at Hines consists of a four-week rotation during which the student is exposed to the surgical problems of the veteran. The veteran has unique problems in the liver, gastrointestinal tract and pancreas. The student is also expected to participate in combined conferences at Loyola including Mortality and Morbidity, Medical/Surgical GI Conference, Grand Rounds and Journal Club. In addition, he/she will make rounds every day and will be under supervision of the chief surgical resident. The course will expose the student to the unique problems that cover veterans' care and the multitude of illnesses that they can manifest. |
