Prerequisite: Completion of Medicine or Surgery Clerkship; open to SSOM students only. 
Special Note:

*Available to M3 students for four-week rotation only. Available to M4 students for two- or four-week rotation.

On the first day of the rotation, report to Jessica Garcia at 8:30AM in Bldg. 200, Rm. 910.

Description: Students assist subspecialty attendings and residents in hematology and medical oncology consultations, coordinating leukemia-lymphoma-oncology management. Tutorial instruction in blood and marrow morphology and performance of bone core biopsy is provided. The objective of the elective is to provide introduction to the assessment of common hematologic and oncologic problems, particularly rational, economical approach to the diagnosis of anemia, coagulation disorders, and other common abnormalities of the blood. In addition, the student is expected to learn the fundamentals of oncologic diagnosis, with emphasis on learning the techniques involved in determining the type and stage of a variety of neoplastic disorders.
Method of Evaluation:

The student's clinical performance will be evaluated by both subspecialty attendings and residents using the student's written summary of each case assigned to him, as well as the student's use of texts and literature to further delineate and solve the problems at hand. 

This course is graded Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail.
