Special Note:

Prior to the first day of the rotation, contact Jackie Foulk at jfoulk@lumc.edu or 708-216-3135, for fellow information/where to report. 

Description: The elective will include four weeks of daily teaching and discussion sessions surveying important issues in infectious diseases, clinical microbiology and pathogenesis. Students will obtain histories, do physical examinations, do literature reviews and formulate assessments for patients for whom infectious diseases consultations are sought. Students will present these assessments to attending ID faculty on rounds and will be responsible for follow-up evaluations and plans. Students will participate in weekly Infectious Diseases conferences and in Infectious Diseases and Immunology Research Institute seminars. Exposure to the principles and practices of infection control and antibiotic stewardship will be offered.
Method of Evaluation:

a. Case presentations and follow-up.
b. Literature review and presentation of findings.
c. Participation in conferences.

This course is graded Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail.
