Special Note:

*Available to M3 students for four-week rotation only. Available to M4 students for two- or four-week rotation.

On the first day of the rotation, page the GI fellow on Loyola consults.

Elective is Monday-Friday, no weekends.

Description:

This clinical elective involves the initial evaluation of patients on the GI inpatient consult service: history and physical, differential diagnosis, work-up, and evaluation of results. The student is expected to be an active member of the GI consult team (GI attending, GI fellow, medical residents), follow the patient daily, and present on daily GI consult rounds. The student is expected to attend all weekly conferences offered by the GI Division.

The objective of the elective is to become familiar with the presentation, differential diagnosis, and approach to diagnostic evaluation of patients with common GI problems.

Method of Evaluation:

Course evaluation is by consensus of GI attending, GI fellow, and medical residents on service. 

This course is graded Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail.
