Description: |
This elective will provide the student with a four-week experience working with the urban underserved at a Federally Qualified Health Center. Elective experiences will include outpatient clinical work, primarily with family physicians; and additional experiences individualized to the interests of each student. These may include administrative experiences at the health center; behavioral health and non-clinical programs at the health center; and interactions with other community-based and public health programs. Students will play an active role in healthcare delivery to the full spectrum of patients in a medically underserved community. Weekly schedule will vary depending on the students' interest. SITE: PCC Community Wellness Center; 14 West Lake Street Oak Park, IL 60302 www.pccwellness.org. PCC is a not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center serving the West Side of Chicago and near western suburbs at 14 sites. PCC's model is anchored in family medicine, committed to serving the needs of all people in all stages of life. |
Method of Evaluation: | Satisfactory completion of the elective will depend on meeting the following conditions: 1. A satisfactory evaluation from the site instructor, using competency related goals and objectives. The site instructor will complete an evaluation based on knowledge, attitude, and competence. 2. A patient/clinical experience log. This can be done as a daily log or clinical diary. 3. Presentation based on required readings as described in "Student Projects." 4. Completion of a minimum of 4 hours of voluntary community service. |
