STEP Accepting Applications for Second Cohort
Loyola University Chicago's School of Social Work is thrilled to announce a second award of a $45,000 grant to train social work supervisors in northern Lake County. The Supervision Training and Education Program (STEP) is a collaborative effort with Adelphi University's Social Work Practice Fellows Program. The second cohort will begin February 7, 2025.

Advocacy Day Provides Hands-On Macro Social Work Experience
For the first time in six years, students at the School of Social Work (SSW) had the opportunity to attend Advocacy Day in-person in Springfield, Illinois on April 16, 2024. Advocacy Day seeks to deepen students’ and social workers’ advocacy skills and their abilities to lobby directly to elected officials.

The School of Social Work is proud to announce a brand new continuing education series from Associate Professor Shweta Singh, Ph.D. titled "Knowing Women from Collectivist Cultures: Focus on South Asian Women and Girls." The series consists of four sessions spread throughout 2024, beginning on March 15.

Second Edition of Dr. Michael Dentato's Book Released
The second edition of Social Work Practice with the LGBTQ+ Community: The Intersection of History, Health, Mental Health, and Policy Factors, edited by Dr. Michael P. Dentato was published by Oxford University Press in August 2022. Dentato is an Associate Professor and the Interim Associate Dean for Research in the School of Social Work.

Loyola Faculty at the 40th International Association for Social Work with Groups (IASWG) Symposium
LUC School of Social Work faculty, current students and alum travelled to South Africa on June, 2018 to take part of the international event. Poster presentations, workshops and dinners were part of the agenda. The location was quite unique, the famous Kruger National Park.

Marton, who is one of this year's President's Medallion recipients, is studying for his master’s degree in social work, serves as a graduate and research assistant for two professors, is the president of the School of Social Work Student Organization, and works several days a week as an intern at Loyola Community and Family Services. -

Thanks to a new $1.35 million grant, School of Social Work professor Philip Hong, PhD, can expand his research into helping low-income adults overcome the barriers that prevent them from finding and keeping full-time jobs. -
