Where are you from?

I'm a Chicago native from the south side of the city.

What do you like to do?

I enjoy reading, listening to music, trying new foods (especially desserts) and exploring the city with my sister.

How would you describe your role at Community Service & Action?

Within CSA, my primary job is to connect students with local community service opportunities. I promote volunteer opportunities for both students and alumni on our Facebook and Twitter (@LUCserve) pages. I also help with some of the behind-the-scenes administrative work in the office.

Why do you engage in service and action?

I engage in service because I like to be active in the community and meet new people. I volunteered as an elementary school tutor last semester, and I enjoyed not only helping the kids with their school work but also getting to know their likes and dislikes. For me, the best service opportunities are the ones where you get to interact one on one with the people you are helping.

What is one of your favorite stories from your experiences with CSA?

My freshman year, I participated in CSA's annual Saturday of Service, and it was one of the best decisions I made that semester. It was nice out that day, and my group got to spend it outside working on a fence for a local school. We struggled to get the old paint off, but the entire time we were laughing and talking about where we were from and what we were hoping to do now that we are here at Loyola. It was nice to do something good for the community that would become my home away from home for the next four years. Ever since, I've tried to stay involved in Saturday of Service as I can, and luckily, I was able to help lead a group last year. I couldn't think of a better way to kick off my senior year than helping to give new students the same great experience I received my first year at Loyola.

What is your favorite thing about the work you do?

My favorite thing about working for CSA is getting to know all the volunteers that take part in our programs. I've made some good friends over the years, and I've heard a lot of great stories about the work Loyola students do in the community.

How are you involved at Loyola outside of CSA?

Outside of CSA, I am a member of The Alliance for Awesome, Loyola's chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance which is an international non-profit focused on promoting social justice and literacy.

What is your favorite place on campus?

My favorite place on campus is the IC. I like to grab a seat in the cafe and enjoy the view of the lake while I study or grab lunch.

What advice would you give to an incoming student at Loyola?

Don't be afraid to explore all that Loyola has to offer, especially when it comes to picking classes. Some of my favorite classes were the ones that had absolutely nothing to do with my major. Use the core requirements to explore your interests and who knows, maybe your whole plan will change, or you'll pick up a minor in a field you never considered before.
