About
California-born Delia Surratt obtained her BA in music from Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles. Having won a scholarship for post-graduate studies, she moved to Italy to study opera. She has sung in Italy’s most famous opera houses, including “La Scala” (Milan), “Il Regio” (Parma and Turin), “Il Massimo” (Palermo), “La Fenice” (Venice), and “Il Petruzelli” (Bari). She sang for various national radio and TV companies in the US, Italy, France, and Germany and recorded for Philips and Deutsche Grammophon. She was historically the first woman employed by the Sistine Chapel boys’ choir in the Vatican as the Maestro of Vocal Technique for three years. She was a Maestro of Vocal Technique at the Italian State Conservatories of Music for 40 years. She has been the professor of vocal technique at Loyola University Chicago JFRC since 2010. Her ongoing singing career brings her to the major theatres and concert halls of Europe and Africa, and venues in the US and China.
