Resident Assistants

The hiring process for the 2025-2026 RA position has begun!

Resident Assistants are primarily responsible for community building and support in the residence halls. The Resident Assistant (RA) role is a unique leadership opportunity for students to meaningfully contribute to the residential community at Loyola University Chicago.  In their work, RAs serve as resources, community builders, administrators, role models, and peer educators with our residents.  As members of a residence hall team, RAs work collaboratively with departmental staff to create a vital and engaged living-learning community.  Together, the hall team provides programs and services that support the mission, vision and values of the Department of Residence Life.  With the goal of creating transformative living environments in the residence halls, RAs are responsible for building and facilitating a positive and effective community.  

Resident Assistant Role Description

Being a Resident Assistant is an opportunity to build a welcoming and safe community while making connections with and for residents living on campus. You will develop skills around communication, organization, and creativity in this amazing leadership position that can apply to any career path you are on!

Chicago Resident Assistants are provided a residence hall assignment for the duration of their appointment, a meal plan, a stipend at the end of each semester, and priority class registration.

Application Process

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Attendance to ONE Information Session
  • Candidates must have a recommender that will complete a recommendation form no later than January 16th at 5pm. You will submit your recommender in your application.
    • The recommender must be someone who has worked with you in an advising, coaching, or supervisory capacity. It is not limited to LUC staff but cannot be a friend or family member.
    • Recommenders will be sent the recommendation form by January 6th with the possibility of it being sent prior to winter break, if your application is submitted earlier.
  • RAs must be an undergraduate student with at least sophomore standing (24 credit hours completed) and must have completed at least one semester of enrollment at Loyola University Chicago prior to beginning their role as an RA.
    • First year students are eligible to apply but must have 24 credit hours by Fall RA Training.
  • Chicago RA candidates must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application. JFRC RA candidates must have a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

Timeline:

  • Applications open Monday, November 25th, 2024 at 5pm
  • Applications due Sunday, January 5th, 2025 at 11:59pm
  • Applicants will receive notification regarding their status in the process by Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 at 5pm.
  • For applicants moving on in the process, they will partake in the following interviews and will receive a sign-up link:
    • Collaborative Interview will be held on Saturday, January 25th
    • Individual Interviews will be held January 29th- February 7th
  • Applicants will be informed of hiring decisions as well as placement on February 26th.

  • Go to your LOCUS homepage
  • Select "Student External Systems" 
  • Select Residence Life and navigate to either the Chicago RA Application, JFRC RA Application, or Returner RA Application (for current RAs only).
    • You are welcome to apply to both the Chicago and JFRC RA positions but will need to submit both applications.
  • Complete and submit application no later than Sunday, January 5th, 2025 at 11:59pm

Resident Assistant Information Sessions

It is required to attend ONE of the below information sessions. You will be required to sign-in when you arrive to in-person sessions and will be required to login with your LUC email for virtual sessions. We will provide information about the position, application/interview process, and provide space for questions.

If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the start time, you will not be permitted to attend the session and will need to attend a different date/time. 

If you plan to attend a Zoom Information Session, please ensure you are using the SSO Login Option in order to sign on with your LUC email address. If you do not use the SSO option, you will receive an error in being able to log on. 

  • Friday, November 8th: 6-7pm (Lake Shore Campus, Simpson MPR 101)
  • Sunday, November 17th: 3-4pm (Virtual, Zoom Link)
  • Tuesday, November 19th:  6-7pm (Lake Shore Campus, IES 122)
