Assignment Process

The Department of Residence Life processes Transfer Student Housing Applications on a rolling basis based on availability of on-campus housing. Housing cannot be guaranteed for any transfer student. The first round of transfer student assignments are sent to LUC email accounts in early/mid-June. If you do not receive a housing assignment after your initial application, you will be placed on a waitlist. As spaces become available, we will continue to assign transfer students off the waitlist. Our office will send all updates and communication to your LUC email, so it is very important to keep checking your email throughout the summer.

Roommate Requests

If you requested a specific roommate or roommates on your housing application and the request was mutual, we will do our best to place you together. Please note that due to limited availability, we may be unable to place you and your preferred roommate together. Students who did not receive their preferred roommate are welcome to contact our office at res-life@luc.edu to be added to our room change waitlist.

Room Change Requests

All assignments are considered permanent. If you would like to request a room change, please contact our office at res-life@luc.edu to be added to our room change waitlist. Due to limited availability, room change requests cannot be guaranteed.

Meal Plans and Meal Plan Change Requests

Transfer students who are considered to be a First-Year or Second-Year by the Department of Residence Life are required to have an All Access Meal Plan. You may choose between a 5-Day All Access Plan (Monday-Friday) and a 7-Day All Access Plan (Monday-Sunday).

Transfer students who are considered to be a Junior or Senior may elect to have an All Access Meal Plan, Block Plan, Declining Balance Meal Plan, or No Meal Plan. For more information about meal plan options, click here.

Your initial assignment will include the meal plan that you selected on your application, but meal plan change requests will be accepted until early September. Students living at the Water Tower Campus in Baumhart Hall are not required to have a meal plan.

Spring Transfer Students

If you plan to transfer to Loyola University Chicago in the spring semester, you may apply for on-campus housing. The spring housing application opens in late October – early November. Spring housing applications are processed on a rolling basis based on availability of on-campus housing. Spring transfer students interested in residing on-campus are encouraged to apply for housing as soon as they are able to as housing can’t be guaranteed.

Residential First-Year, Second-Year, and Junior/Senior Determination

The Department of Residence Life determines class standing based on the year you graduated high school, not credit hours. If you are unsure of your residential class standing, please contact us at res-life@luc.edu.

Housing Assignments + iPlan

For questions about your bill and iPlan, please contact the Office of the Bursar. If you've already created an iPlan and indicated a different building/room type than the one to which you were assigned or have changed your meal plan, be sure to log in and update your iPlan.

Commuting From Home & Off Campus Housing Options

While many transfer students choose to live on-campus, some students choose to commute from home or a local off-campus apartment. There are several resources for students as they begin their off-campus apartment search. We encourage students to start with the following:

Connect with Lakeside Management. Lakeside Management is a property management company owned by Loyola University Chicago. With this being the case, they understand the unique needs of a college student apartment search process and are well-versed in the neighborhood surrounding Loyola. While most of their properities are near the Lake Shore Campus, there is a property near the Water Tower Campus.

Search Places4Students! Places4Students is an apartment listing site just for the Loyola Community. Students can log in with their Loyola e-mail credentials. In addition to finding available apartments, students can post or look for sub-letting opportunities and find roommates.

Information for Parents and Guardians

As a parent/guardian, sending your student to college can be a time of excitement and apprehension. The Department of Residence Life has provided information and resources to help you and your student have a smooth and enjoyable transition to the university and to make Loyola home.
