World Food Prize Foundation selects Maya Roytman for prestigious internship
June 21, 2021
The World Food Prize Foundation has selected Loyola University Chicago student Maya Roytman for its 2021 Summer George Washington Carver (GWC) Internship program. Roytman is a rising junior studying public health at Loyola's Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health.
Each semester, the World Food Prize Foundation solicits applications from students all around the country for the GWC Internship program, which annually consists of three cohorts - Spring, Summer, and Fall. These interns have the option for an in-person, virtual, or hybrid experience as they work through the difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The GWC Internship program has impacted hundreds of students since its founding in 2001. This experience allows interns to get involved in the operation and impact of an international nonprofit organization while learning first-hand about the significance of food security today. These interns play a critical role in the daily operations of the World Food Prize Foundation while working closely with experienced mentors to carry forth the Foundation’s driving purpose.
As the Awards and Lectures Management Intern, Roytman will plan the annual Laureate Lecture Series, coordinate the logistics of the event, and represent the World Food Prize Foundation during the Borlaug Dialogue. This work is essential for the continued success and excellence of events organized by the Foundation.
“As a student of public health, I am excited to have the opportunity to learn from incredible professionals in global health and food security, in addition to gaining a more profound understanding of the World Food Prize Foundation's role in uplifting the work of international leaders and changemakers,” says Roytman.
