Conflict Coaching

Conflict coaching

Conflict coaching is a one-on-one meeting or series of meetings with a staff member from the SRCR Team where you will have the opportunity to explore the conflict you’re experiencing and formulate an action plan moving forward. Conflict coaching can also be used to work on developing more effective communication and conflict management skills.

What does conflict coaching look like?

  • During the meeting, our staff member will give an overview of the conflict coaching process and their role as a conflict coach.
  • You will then be invited to describe the conflict and what you ultimately hope to accomplish through conflict coaching.
  • Our staff member will gather information from you about your needs and interest regarding the conflict.
  • Our staff member will then consider your needs and interests to help you brainstorm potential conflict resolution options.
  • You (with our staff member's support and coaching) will then develop a realistic, achievable plan for how best to proceed.
  • Finally, our staff member will then invite final questions, reflections, and summarize the key takeaway points from the meeting. You will be invited to schedule a follow‐up appointment if you choose.

Why would I participate in conflict coaching?

Conflict coaching is a great option if you’re experiencing a conflict, but aren’t quite ready to involve the other person. It is also a resource if the other person involved is not willing to participate in mediation or other conflict resolution services. Conflict coaching can also be a space to work on your own communication and conflict management skills.

What if I would rather not participate?

All of our conflict resolution services are completely optional. Each party always has the option not to participate.

Is what I say confidential?

Privacy is a crucial component of the processes in SRCR. All information shared through mediation or other conflict resolution services will be kept private, with two exceptions: 1) If there is mention of a serious violation of the Community Standards or law, a staff member would be required to act upon this information as appropriate and to ensure the safety of the community. 2) If a staff member becomes aware that someone may be in danger of serious, imminent harm, they would be required to address the situation as appropriate to ensure the safety of the community.

Ok, so how do I sign up?

Select "conflict resolution report or request" and fill out this report form and someone will reach out to you. You can also call 773-508-8890 or stop by the SRCR suite on the third floor of the Damen Student Center to set up an intake meeting.
