Overview
Foreign Language Placement Assessment
Placement Assessment
Complete a French, German, or Spanish assessment to continue studying one of these languages. A placement test is also necessary if you have previously spoken but never studied the language. No assessment is necessary if you would like to continue studying Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, or Latin or Classical Greek (Classical Studies Dept.). Your advisor will ask you a few questions about your past experience in these languages and place you accordingly. You are strongly encouraged to consult with the foreign language placement coordinators.
Tools Needed
You will not need anything other than a computer to complete the assessment.
Assessment Length
The assessment typically takes between 20 and 40 minutes.
Assessment Structure
The exam is a multiple choice Computer Adaptive Test. This means the exam presents questions of different ability levels, adapting the next question's level according to your answers. The number of items you will be required to complete depends upon your ability to use the language.
Cost
Free.
