Substance Use and Addictions specialty

Deepen your understanding of addiction and its impact on mental health care.

The Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing is the first school in the nation to offer a Substance Use and Addictions specialty as part of its Psychiatric Mental Health Doctor of Nursing Practice track. By offering this unique specialty, our graduates will understand how substance use disorders and addiction impact psychiatric mental health and treatment options. Preparing Psychiatric Mental Health NPs with the knowledge and skills to identify and treat substance use disorders is critical given the number of people who suffer from substance abuse and its repercussions throughout families, communities, the health care system, and society.

Curriculum

The Psychiatric Mental Health NP with Substance Use and Addictions specialty is offered in a hybrid learning format with both online and in-person instruction.
