Spencer Weber Waller named FTC senior advisor

Spencer Weber Waller, director of the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies, has been named a senior advisor to Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chair Lina Khan. During his appointment, Waller will work within the Office of Policy Planning and across the agency on a variety of competition policy projects.

“This is a unique opportunity for Professor Waller to advance the work and reputation of our Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies,” says Interim Dean Zelda B. Harris. “He has dedicated his career to enhancing antitrust and consumer protection policies, and this FTC experience will directly benefit our students and the School of Law, and move us closer to actualizing our renewed mission to dismantle systems of oppression and injustice.”

At the School of Law, Waller is also the John Paul Stevens Chair in Competition Law and professor, teaching antitrust, intellectual property, civil procedure, and international litigation courses. He is the author, co-author, or editor of eight books and numerous articles on antitrust, and the first full-length biography of Thurman Arnold, the founder of modern antitrust enforcement in the United States. His recent scholarship focuses on antitrust, brands, class actions, high-tech industries, innovation, and intellectual property. Waller is the recipient of the 2014 Concurrence Antitrust Writing Award.
