J-Term courses are developed to have the same contact hours as regular academic year semesters and the six-week and eight-week sessions during Summer Sessions. J-Term classes typically meet daily for four to four and a half hours when scheduled on-campus. Online courses will have synchronous sessions of certain duration depending on the class. Students are expected to spend approximately six hours a day studying or engaged in projects.
Your home institution typically decides whether to accept Loyola course credits. Please ask your academic advisor at your home institution about processes for courses that you are interesting in taking.

Loyola students should contact their academic advisor or visit Academic Advising at the freshman and sophomore level or the Dean of their school or college at the junior and senior level.
Students withdraw from J-Term through LOCUS. To review the Withdrawal Schedule, please, refer to the J-Term Registration and Class Schedule.
PLEASE NOTE that by registering for classes, you accept responsibility for paying all tuition and other fees associated with these classes.
If your academic plans change, you must take action to withdraw from your classes. Failure to attend class does not result in an automatic withdrawal or removal of charges from your student account.
We do not have a set final exam schedule, however, faculty may schedule final exams and/or projects during the final class meeting.
Students can only register for a maximum of 3 credit hours for J-Term or one course.
We will process your application within 5-7 business days and send you an e-mail with instructions. Visiting students must first complete an application as a non-degree student before registering for a class. All applications must be submitted in full by Monday, December 18. We will not be able to review applications submitted after that time.
After you have been admitted to Loyola, you will recieve an email with instructions. You may also contact the Information Service Desk at 773.508.4487 and request your universal ID and password. You will need this information to register for classes through LOCUS.
If you are currently studying in the U.S. on a student visa, you can apply and attend Loyola's J-Term. Visa paperwork, however, is not issued for J-Term. Students who are not currently enrolled in classes at a university or college in the U.S cannot attend classes in this term. Housing is not provided for students attending J-Term on Loyola's Lakeshore Campus.
J-Term 2025 tuition is $960 per credit hour (subject to change and not including students for the School of Continuing and Professional Studies). Please visit the Office of the Bursar webpage. E-Bills for J-Term courses will be generated in mid-December and all tuition and fees for J-Term courses will be due on January 5, 2025. Please check your LUC email box or LOCUS for updates.
Student activity and technology fees will be waived for the J-Term session. Lab and associated class fees, however, will apply to some courses. Please review the Office of the Bursar website for more information.
Limited financial aid is available to Loyola students to be applied to the tuition, fees and book expenses of January-Term. Costs for the J-Term must be processed through loans separate from those in place for Fall and Spring semesters. Aid for Fall/Spring is not available to meet the costs for January Term courses.
Note: No financial aid is available for living expenses, as the living expenses for this period of time are already included in the costs considered for Fall/Spring financial aid awards.

Please note that Loyola University does not mail paper bills to students. All billing is done through a student's LOCUS account.
Please purchase books through the Loyola Bookstore. The bookstore website is available to place course material orders. Students who order by December 15 will get their materials by the beginning of class. The bookstore cannot guarantee delivery by January 2, of orders placed online after December 15.
if you have an on-campus class or think you will be using campus facilities, including the library, you must have a Campus Card to identify yourself as a Loyola student. If you currently do not have a Campus Card, at any time after you register for courses, go to the Student Services Center, located on the first floor of the Corboy Law Center, 25 E. Pearson, at the Water Tower Campus or the first floor of the Sullivan Center at the Lake Shore Campus. There is no charge for the card, but you will be assessed a $25 fee for replacement cards.
Please note that you can obtain your card before the start of each session, however, students need to be registered for courses first.
U-Pass will not be available during the breaks per contractual agreements. Shuttles & 8-RIDE will not be in service.
Students who purchased parking permits for the academic year will be able to use their permit for parking throughout January. Fall commuter parking permits will expire on December 31. If a student attending J-Term signs up for Spring parking by December 30, J-Term parking will be included. Be sure to request this when you purchase your spring permit at the Campus Transportation office. All other students will pay the daily rate of $8/day.
