Call Forwarding vs Avaya Softphone
For faculty and staff based out of our Lake Shore or Water Tower campuses, there are two options to recieve inbound Loyola calls when working remote. Faculty and staff based out of our Health Sciences Campus are on a different phone system and currently do not have an option to receive calls when working remote.
Call Forwarding allows for all incoming calls to an extension to be forwarded to another number. The process is straightforward, but does not offer all the features of the Avaya Softphone. The Avaya Softphone is an application that can be installed on a personal computer (Mac or PC) that allows for both inbound and outbound calls.
Below is a flowchart to help advise which option may work best, based on your needs and workflow. The ITS Service Desk is also available to offer advise via email (ITSservicedesk@luc.edu) or phone (773.508-4487).
Additional Considerations
While the above will help determine which option works best for your situation, please also keep the following in mind when using either option.
Call Forwarding | Avaya Softphone |
---|---|
Manual Process - Must be activated at the phone in question | Requires Loyola Secure Access to use |
Caller ID information does not forward | Requires an application to be installed |
Unanswered calls will go to personal voicemail | Can only be used on a PC or Mac computer |
May have a cost involved, depending on personal calling plan | Voice quality will depend on quality of internet connection |
Outbound calls come from the personal phone number | Outbound calls come from your Loyola extension |
