St. Luke's Week
The festivities and awards of this week are named for Saint Luke, one of the four Gospel writers of the Christian New Testament. It is believed that St. Luke was a physician, or the equivalent of his time. He is often depicted holding a Caduceus. In the Catholic tradition, he has been named the Patron Saint of Physicians – a saint of the church who holds a special place in the prayer life of many Catholic physicians, and who can provide inspiration and intercession to our Creator for the specific needs of doctors, residents, and medical students. As a Catholic Medical School, his Feast Day, October 18 – conveniently located in the middle of Fall Semester! – provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the profession and vocational call to medicine, to bring us together in community, and to reflect on our call to service.
St. Luke's Week Interfaith Lunch
Tuesday, October 15, 12:00-1:00 p.m.
RSVP by Friday, October 11
During St. Luke's Week, Stritch celebrates the profession of medicine as a CALL TO SERVICE, and our call to be people of HEALING in the world. Let's share a meal, and share with one another what calls us to serve and heal - bringing together our beautifully diverse faith, religious, and cultural backgrounds that make Stritch such a rich place to learn.
This is a gathering about sharing and listening, learning and growing. Everyone will have a place at the table. We will share with and receive one another with a spirit of authenticity, openness, and care.
Thank you to student leaders from the following student organizations who have planned and supported creating the lunch event this year!
JSA - The Stritch Jewish Student Association
MAGIS - Medical Association Guided by Ignatian Spirituality
MMSA - The Muslim Medical Student Association
SAMSA - The South Asian Medical Student Association
