Professional Development
We encourage graduate students to explore professional development opportunities at Loyola and beyond. The Graduate School offers opportunities for professional development for students interested in academic careers and non-academic careers through our workshops, which you'll find on our calendar and listed below. Unless specified, all workshops are free to and open to all graduate students.
Loyola's Career Development Center offers opportunities for all graduate students to participate in the Career Self-Assessment Workshop, the LUConnect mentoring program, and career counseling with a staff member. The Career Development Center also organizes job fairs and recruitment events throughout the school year. These events are an excellent opportunity for graduate students to meet one-on-one with prospective employers!
Loyola’s Career Development Center participates in the Jesuit Career Center Consortium, which allows students and alumni to receive career services from participating partner institutions nationwide. This is an important resource for those interested in a career in a city or region beyond Chicago.
Loyola's Faculty Center for Ignatian Pedagogy allows PhD students to enroll (when space allows) in Ignatian Pedagogy Seminars, the Ignatian Pedagogy Certificate Program, and other workshops to help improve build teaching and course development skills.
Loyola has a membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity, which is a treasure trove of useful information and support for those seeking to make a career in the academy. Simply click Join and pick Loyola University Chicago from the list of member institutions to get started.
We encourage PhD students to start working on an Individual Development Plan Template (IDP) that can help you set and meet your professional and career development goals.
