About Us
We live in an interdependent world. The emergence of global markets has internationalized trade and investment. Distances separating nations and peoples have contracted with improvements in transportation and communications. Environmental problems reflect global concerns that transcend national boundaries.
The Global Studies Program serves students who wish to achieve a deeper understanding of other nations, cultures and peoples in the modern world. Students majoring or minoring in global studies will explore general aspects of the international system from the perspectives of the academic departments represented in the program. Students will also examine the histories, political systems, and cultures of various regions of the world. To facilitate these studies, global studies majors and minors will develop a level of proficiency in a modern language beyond the general requirement of the College of Arts and Sciences.
The Global Studies Program prepares students for careers in an increasingly interdependent global environment. Professions that draw especially heavily on a background in international studies include those in business, communication, public service, education, journalism, law and social work. Completing a global studies major or minor also helps prepare students for graduate studies in international affairs.
