The Dual Credit Experience
As part of Loyola's Dual Credit program, our high school partners offer a high-quality Loyola education in select classes. This is a college-level curriculum in a high school classroom. To ensure that the quality of the curriculum and the amount of work required accurately reflects a college-level course, high school instructors will work with an assigned Loyola faculty member who will provide feedback and assistance.
As a dual credit student, although still in high school, you are beginning your official college transcript, regardless of where you attend college in the future. Grades earned in dual credit courses will be part of the your records throughout your college career. It is important to consider your readiness to enroll in and successfully complete dual credit courses. You should be especially aware of drop dates and procedures to avoid a transcript with a negative grade.
Eligibility
Students must have the appropriate academic qualifications to be considered for Loyola's Dual Credit Program. Loyola seeks highly motivated and capable high school students who are:
- Currently enrolled in the junior or senior year of high school, and
- Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Sophomores enrolled in courses that are typically junior or senior level courses - courses whose majority enrollment is junior or senior level - may participate in Loyola's Dual Credit Program with an email request from the dual credit liaison (usually your high school principal, assistant principal, or guidance counselor) indicating the following:
- The designated course in question is a junior or senior level course;
- The student meets the required 3.0 unweighted GPA standard, verified by a copy of the student's high school transcript, sent by the high school liaison; and
- The student has scored in the 90th percentile or above composite score on their most recent standardized test (ACT, SAT, PSAT, MAP, IBTS, or EXPLORE), verified by copy of the official test report.
Available Classes
Courses eligible for Loyola's Dual Credit Program are housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Communication, School of Environmental Sustainability, and the School of Education. Dual credit courses offered by participating high schools must be similar in content, rigor, assignments, and assessments. Please note that not all courses at participating high schools are eligible to be awarded dual credit. Please check with your dual credit liaison (usually your high school principal, assistant principal, or guidance counselor) to determine the courses offered at your high school.
