About

Gina Spitz has a PhD and MS in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with concentrations in urban sociology, race relations, and racial stratification. Gina's dissertation examined the relationship between residential racial diversity and interracial social ties using an ethnographic and interview-based neighborhood case study in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In graduate school, Gina also worked to advance diversity and inclusion on the UW-Madison campus through her role as the Co-Chair for the Teaching Assistants' Association's Diversity Committee, the Sociology Department's Minority Recruitment and Retention Committee, and the Delta Program's Academic Excellence Initiative (formerly known as the Bridging the Achievement Gap project). She also taught as a TA, Co-instructor, and Lecturer in the Sociology department and in various STEM departments around teaching and learning skills, for which she was awarded several teaching awards.

Also before coming to CURL, Gina worked for Mission Measurement, a social impact consulting firm in downtown Chicago. There, she was a Research Analyst and Survey Lead for a research project on micro-finance in developing countries and also the Research Director for a project on STEM education. Most recently, Gina completed work for Foreseeable Futures Group, a research consulting company, on a project that focused on the challenges facing adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities moving to more independent living situations. Gina previously received her BA in Development Studies from the University of California-Berkeley.
