David Van Zytveld
About
David is the Director of the Center for Urban Research and Learning (CURL). He came to Loyola in 1995 where he began to work for CURL’s predecessor, the Policy Research Action Group (PRAG - https://www.luc.edu/curl/pragarchive/). David began his tenure at CURL when the Center opened its door in January of 1996.
He has held a variety of positions at CURL including Graduate Researcher, Community Research Coordinator, Assistant Director, and, since 2008, Associate Director. David was appointed to the position of Interim Director in 2016 and Director in 2017.
David has had the privilege of partnering with hundreds of community partners, faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students in his 20 plus years at CURL. His collaborative research areas have included early childhood education, housing, community economic development, youth development, and numerous topics related to program evaluation. He has had primary responsibility, especially in the last 10 years, for the day-to-day operations and project management of CURL.
David has a BA in Sociology and History from Calvin College, a Master in Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and an MA in Sociology from Loyola University Chicago. He and his family reside in Rogers Park.
