Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The Department of Classical Studies affirms the University's statement on diversity: "We will continuously evaluate our commitment to diversity through conscious engagement with its manifestation across the local and global world we live in today." For the full statement and to learn more about the University's resources, visit the Diversity and Inclusion website.

NEW! For the 2023-2024 academic year, the Department of Classical Studies is pleased to announce a $5,000 tuition scholarship for the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate to promote diversity and inclusion in Classical Studies. To apply for this scholarship students must identify as members of an underrepresented or marginalized group (including but not limited to racial and ethnic groups, LGBTQIA+, first generation college students, low income students, and students with disabilities). Application due date is April 28th 2022. Apply online here.

Many Classical Studies organizations promote diversity and inclusion, provide support, and help create community. For information about these organizations, see Diversity and Inclusion on the Department's Classics Communities page.

Several Classical Studies organizations provide scholarships and fellowships to support historically underrepresented students. Look for these on our Fellowships, Internships, and Fieldwork page.

Thinking of graduate school? Several universities have developed funded "bridge programs" that support underrepresented students in classics. Find these on our Career Resources: Academia page.
