Leah Peitzmann named LUC-Noyce Scholar
2021 Noyce Scholar, Leah Peitzmann
Leah Peitzmann, a senior in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, was named a LUC-Noyce Scholar in the School of Education. She will receive a scholarship of $20,000 for one year to complete her education program, receive mentoring, and take part in numerous professional development opportunities as a part this award.
The LUC-Noyce Scholars program, funded by the NSF, is entering its 5th year. The program addresses a critical need for recruiting and preparing highly effective science and mathematics teachers in high-need local school districts. To date the LUC-Noyce Scholars program has prepared 20 new high school science and mathematics teachers who are serving in Chicago Public Schools and the greater Chicago area.
Leah, who is originally from Decatur, Illinois, plans to return there after completing her Chemistry B.A./M.Ed. program to teach high school chemistry. She is enthusiastic about teaching in this underserved, rural school district.
Congratulations, Leah!
