Arseniy Butrin awarded 2021-22 Schmitt Fellowship
Arseniy Butrin, a 4th year PhD student in Prof. Dali Liu’s research group, will receive the Arthur Schmitt Fellowship for 2021–22. Over the past 3 years, Arseniy has been working on research projects in structure-based drug design and has published 2 research papers on high impact journals (ACS Chemical Biology and JACS) to date. Additionally, he has 1 more paper currently in press and several more in preparation. His research has produced significant results to help advance a potential novel therapy for Hepatic Caner. Arseniy has mentored 2 MS students and 2 undergraduate students in research and has served as teaching assistants in General Chemistry lab, Organic Chem lab, Physical Chemistry lab, and Biochemistry lab. The awarded Schmitt Fellowship will support him to complete his research thesis on “Structural and Transient Kinetic Analysis on Mechanism-Based Inactivators of Human Ornithine Aminotransferases”. Arseniy’s thesis work has been mentored by Prof. Dali Liu and in close collaboration with Prof. Graham Moran in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
