Master of Science in Chemistry (Thesis-Based) 

 Starting Fall 2023:

Courses: 6 Required

Students must take CHEM 401

12 credit hours of research required

Students must take at least one of the following:

-CHEM 424: Molecular Characterization- Part A

-CHEM 435: Current Topics

-CHEM 445: Molecular Characterization- Part B

-CHEM 455: Archeometry

-CHEM 465: Advanced Biochemistry

-CHEM 480: Chemistry for Teachers

30 total credit hours required 

Write and defend a research thesis

 

Length of Program: Full-time students usually complete the program in 1.5-2 years.

Part-time students generally complete the program in 3.5 years.

 

Master of Science in Chemistry (Course-Based)

Starting Fall 2023:

Courses: 10 Graduate Level Courses, 30 Credit hours

Students must take CHEM 401

Four of the remaining courses must be from the following:

-CHEM 424: Molecular Characterization- Part A

-CHEM 435: Current Topics

-CHEM 445: Molecular Characterization- Part B

-CHEM 455: Archeometry

-CHEM 465: Advanced Biochemistry

-CHEM 480: Chemistry for Teachers

Research (3 hours maximum)

Remaining courses can be distributed or a student can specialize in an area

 

Length of Program: Full-time students usually complete the program in 1.5-2 years.

Part-time students generally complete the program in 2.5 years. 

 

Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry (PhD) 

Starting Fall 2023:

Courses: 6 required 

Students must take CHEM 401

Students must take at least one of the following:

-CHEM 424: Molecular Characterization- Part A

-CHEM 435: Current Topics

-CHEM 445: Molecular Characterization- Part B

-CHEM 455: Archeometry

-CHEM 465: Advanced Biochemistry

-CHEM 480: Chemistry for Teachers

Students must take a total of six lecture courses (including those above)

The remainder of the 60 credit hours are research. 

Write and defend a research thesis

Length of the program: Full-time students usually complete the program in 4.5 years. 

Part-time students generally complete the program in 7 years.

 

5 Year BS/MS in Chemistry

Starting Fall 2023: 

Courses: Four graduate level courses should be taken during Senior year.

During the 5th year: six graduate courses should be taken at the 400-level.

Students must take CHEM 401

Graduate Level Chemistry Courses

To fulfill course requirements, students can choose from graduate chemistry courses.
