Pursuing Research

Pursuing Research Opportunities in the Department of Biology

The following outlines the suggested steps to identify and apply for research positions. Please note there are 25 faculty who have active research labs in the department. This document also has links for opportunities outside of the department that students should view. Positions in research labs are generally filled quickly, so please do not hesitate to apply – particularly in your freshman, sophomore or junior years. In addition, please plan on applying to labs a semester prior to your proposed start date.

Step 1: View the webpages/information of faculty in the department to gauge your interest: https://www.luc.edu/biology/aboutus/facultyresearch/

Step 2: Complete an application for research using this Undergraduate Research Application Portal (contact biolab@luc.edu if you would like further information or need to change faculty interest: https://forms.luc.edu/biolab/login.htm

Step 3: Feel free to contact specific faculty via email to inquire about open positions if they identify as taking students! Some faculty prefer this method.

Step 4: If you do not receive a response from a faculty member feel free to send a reminder in 2-3 weeks’ time.
