Center welcomes inaugural cohort of impact leaders

On November 20, 2019 the Baumhart Center for Social Enterprise and Responsibility welcomed its inaugural class of 80 Impact Leaders to the first gathering of the Impact Leaders Series (ILS). ILS is designed to bring together young professionals to explore topics in social business, inclusive leadership, and values-based career development. The program features exclusive workshops and panels facilitated by accomplished purpose-driven leaders, including Loyola’s Baumhart Scholars and other leaders in the Baumhart Center’s efforts.

ILS’ kick-off event explored the complex and growing world of ESG and Impact Investing. The event opened with Bill Schleizer, CEO of the Delta Institute, presenting a framework for the changing landscape of ESG. Then, Laura Coy, Director of Community Engagement at William Blair, moderated a panel featuring Dan Nielsen, Managing Director, Great Lakes Advisors; Greg Schmidt, Second Vice President, Northern Trust; and Charity Driggs, Associate Project Manager in ESG, Morningstar. Panelists shared immediate actions young professionals can take to better understand and influence their companies’ ESG strategies and become impact-minded investors themselves.

The inaugural ILS cohort was selected from a candidate pool of over 135 emerging leaders working in both nonprofit and private sector roles in Chicago. They will continue the program through April, covering topics including Managing for Impact, Driving Impact in Education, Leading for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Designing Purpose-Driven Careers.
